“You’re Here…”
11×14 letterpress poster created with wood English type and lead Hebrew type • 2025

The text in the background is the first two lines of the Kaddish Yatom (Mourner’s Kaddish), fading away as it repeats down the page. The blessing, interestingly, does not mention death at all and instead focuses on exalting God and calling for peace. Some mourners struggle with this because, on first pass, it seems inexplicably unrelated to the reason we’re saying the prayer in the first place, but rabbinic explanations note (among other reasons) that it reminds us that our own life’s work to improve the world must continue.
The English text comes from the song “Oh, Maker” by Janelle Monaé and speaks to the abruptness of a loved one’s death, even when you know it’s coming.
